About Sarah

American Soprano, Sarah Schroeder has been awarded prizes in The Barry Alexander International Voice Competition as well as The Long Leaf National Voice Competition. In 2012 and 2013, she was the recipient of awards from The American Prize National Competition in three categories; Opera, Art Song, and Oratorio.

In 2013/14, Sarah toured China with the South Shore Orchestra as the guest soprano soloist singing operatic favorites from Verdi's La Traviata and one of the most famous waltz's in the classical repertoire; Johann Strauss's “Frühlingsstimmen.”

On stage, she has toured England with Chamber Opera of Chicago, portraying Mrs. Clay in a musical adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion. She joined the company in the Chicago and New York productions as Mrs. Harville in the 2012/2013 productions.

Other music theater roles include Sister Agatha/ Maria U/S. for Chamber Opera Chicago's production of Rodger's & Hammerstein's: The Sound of Music, Magnolia in a concert performance of the music of Jerome Kern’s Show Boat, and as Jane Bennett in the Chicago Premiere of Jacob and Baker’s Pride & Prejudice.

Most recent operatic roles performed roles include: Violeletta in La Traviata and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with Verismo Opera Theater; Zaide with the Amadeus Opern Ensemble in Salzburg, Austria; Frasquita in Carmen with both Lexington Opera and Chamber Opera Chicago; Dew Fairy in Hansel & Gretel; Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream with Sugar Creek Symphony; Adele in Die Fledermaus with Belmont Opera theater; Jou Jou in Mitislav the Modern with Chicago Folks Operetta; Sister Catherine in Dialogues of the Carmelites with Converse Opera Theater; Miss Pinkerton in Old Maid & the Thief; and Felice in Test Tube, at which time, she was the first to sing the fully staged role of Milton Granger's opera.

In concert, Sarah has been heard at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s annual fundraiser honoring Riccardo Muti in An Evening of Italian Opera, and as the guest soloist at Orchestra Hall for the annual Rush Medical Center Fundraiser. She has appeared as a soloist on the Chicago Lyric Opera Guild Concert Series, Northbrook Parisian Salon Series, Omnitones Chamber Ensemble, Chicago Chamber Ensemble, the Lira Ensemble, and in Chamber Opera Chicago's Te Amo: An evening of Spanish Music and Dance.

In spring, 2024, Sarah was the soprano soloist for the award-winning Requiem for My Friend from acclaimed Polish film composer Zbigniew Preisner. Preisner is Poland’s leading film music composer, having received numerous international film awards, and is considered to be one of the most outstanding film composers of his generation. The piece was Preisner’s first large-scale work specially written for live performance and was dedicated to the memory of lauded film director Krzysztof Kieslowski, Preisner’s long-time collaborator.

Other recent works include Mozart’s Vespers (Vespare Solennes de Confessore) in March, 2024 with the Tower Chorale and as a soloist / section leader for a choral residency at the Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury, England.

On screen, Sarah appeared as a singer in a T-Mobile national television commercial under the direction of Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Glee) and Musical Director Paul Mirkovich. Other credits include Logitech, A&E’s The Beast and Michael Mann’s Public Enemies.

Sarah holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Pedagogy & Performance from Belmont University and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Samford University.
